Internal Security Update (21-28 May 2018)
In the week of 21-28 May 2018, within the framework of domestic security operations over the past week, around Turkey, Gendarmerie Special Operations (JOH), Police Special Operations (POH) and Gendarmerie Commando Forces together with Turkish Armed Forces air and land units performed 1,483 operations, wherein 4,009 persons were detained of which, 730 persons for aiding and abetting members of terrorist organizations or for being connected with terror organizations (PKK/KCK 145, radical left 7, DEAS 33, FETO 545), 3,204 persons in connection with narcotics and smuggling and 97 in the fight against human trafficking and illegal migration.
Also within the scope of these operations over the past week, a total of 42 terrorists, were neutralized (21 killed, 6 captured alive, 15 surrendered).
11 caves, shelters, storage and other positions were rendered unusable and explosives, weapons, ammunitions and other materials were confiscated during the operations in 5 provinces, namely Bitlis, Siirt, Tunceli, Diyarbakir, and Kars.
29 weapons of which 18 are heavy (2 M-16, 1 Dragunov, 2 Rocket, 13 Kalashnikoff) were confiscated along with following materials:
- 18 Hand-grenades
- 3,541 rounds of various calibre ammunition
- 22 handmade mines
- 268 kg explosive
In the fight against narcotics, drugs and smuggling activities during 2,380 operations the following were confiscated:
► 868 kg Marijuana,
► 349 kg Heroin,
► 2.24 kg Cocaine,
► 1.5 kg Opium gum,
► 5.3 kg Synthetic Cannabinoid Substance,
► 20,239 Ecstasy pills,
► 3239 Captagon,
► 3.2 kg Methamphetamine,
► 142,355 roots of Cannabis.
In addition, below items were also confiscated in these operations,
► 459,737 illegal cigarettes
► 57,379 litres of illegal fuel
3,204 suspects were detained.
During cyber crime prevention activities; investigation into 754 social media accounts were made for terror and terrorist organization propaganda, hate speech and hostility towards individuals, insulting senior members of state, attacking the integrity and sovereignty of the state and threat to public, out of which 420 people were identified and judicial procedures were initiated.
WITHIN THE SCOPE OF COMBATING ILLEGAL MIGRATION; 4,633 illegal migrants, out of which 651 were at sea, were caught and 97 organizers of human trafficking and illegal migrants were detained.
