Varna will host this evening a very important meeting for the relations between the European Union and Turkey. The main topics will be visa liberalization, the financial part of the Refugee Agreement, the fight against terrorism, Turkey‘s accession talks.
European Council President Donald Tusk and Chief of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, will take part in the meeting, hosted by Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.
The meeting in Varna is scheduled to begin at 19:00, then there will be official statements after which the Turkish delegation will leave. First, European leaders are expected to arrive, and then both Turkish delegation aircrafts.
The meeting may prove to be one of the most important in the mandate of the Bulgarian Euro-Presidency. In addition to meeting with European leaders, Erdogan and Borissov will hold a bilateral meeting where bilateral and regional issues are expected to be discussed.
There are strong security measures in the city because of the summit. 120 journalists have been accredited. In addition to Bulgarian, European and Turkish colleagues, there will be three Al-Jazeera teams, as well as Chinese and Japanese media.
