Is The MoI Soylu Resigning Or Being Dismissed? #AKPIntraWar
Rumours are rampant once again in Ankara on a new cabinet shuffle starting with Minister of Interior Mr Suleyman Soylu.
It is well known in circles close to AKP that Mr Soylu and Mr Berat Albayrak, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources as well as the son in law of President Erdogan, don’t look eye to eye much. Mr Soylu has been very industrious in being one of Erdogan’s adjutants when it comes to utilizing the means of the Police and Gendarme over his term that started in September of 2016.
Before he had joined the AKP in September of 2012, he was the Chairman of Democratic Party (DP) and was fervent opponent of then Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the extent that he called him a liar and a thief. First he assumed key roles in the headquarters of AKP until he was elected as member of parliament from Trabzon province in both the 2015 general elections after which he was appointed as the Minister of Labour and Social Security.
During almost six years of his AKP career he has always tried his best to be praising Mr Erdogan and rising in the ranks, which made some AKP senior officials and the old guard uncomfortable and envious.
Sources close to the President’s Palace as well as AKP headquarters say he has already delivered his farewell speech on Sunday morning in a breakfast gathering of Youth NGO’s in Trabzon and will be leaving office within this week.
The question remains; why would a Minister of Interior resign or asked to leave office in the middle of a critical campaign such as Operation Olive Branch, where Police and Gendarme Special Forces, which are within the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Interior, are about to be deployed to Afrin?
