Internal Security Update (22 – 29 January 2018)
In the week of 22-29/January/2018, within the framework of domestic security operations over the past week, around Turkey,
Gendarmerie Special Operations (JOH), Police Special Operations (POH) and Gendarmerie Commando Forces together with Turkish Armed Forces air and land units have performed 819 operations, wherein 4,377 persons have been detained of which, 1,166 persons for aiding and abetting members of terrorist organizations or for being connected with terror organizations (PKK/KCK 450, radical left 34, DEAS 59, FETO 623), 3,139 persons in connection with narcotics and smuggling and 72 in the fight against human trafficking and irregular migration.
In addition 311 persons have been detained and charged with terror propaganda in connection with and against the Afrin operation.
Also within the scope of these operations over the past week a total of 28 terrorists, including Terror Blue List and Interpol Red List wanted DEAS terrorist Demet Tasar have been neutralized (1 killed, 21 captured alive, 6 have surrendered).
14 caves, storage and other places were rendered unusable and explosives, weapons, ammunitions and other materials were confiscated during the winter operations in 4 provinces, namely Bitlis, Igdir, Kars, Sirnak.
9 weapons of which 1 heavy and long-range (RPG) have been confiscated along with following materials:
- 108 kg substance used to make explosives
- 6 Hand-grenades
- 13,975 rounds of various calibre ammunition
- 4 IED’s
In the fight against narcotics, drugs and smuggling activities during 2,273 operations various substances with street value of 20,224,906.- TL have been confiscated.
► 642 kg Marijuana,
► 215 kg Heroin
► 35.5 kg Cocaine
► 27 kg Synthetic Cannabinoid Substance
► 6.1 kg Methamphetamine,
► 3,039 Narcotic pills,
► 845 roots of Cannabis
►476,409 illegal cigarettes
► 36,489 litres of illegal fuel
Within these operations 3,139 suspects have been detained.
During cyber crime prevention activities; investigation into 571 social media accounts have been made for terror and terrorist organization propaganda, hate speech and hostility towards individuals, insulting senior members of state, attacking the integrity and sovereignty of the state and threat to public, out of which 208 people were identified and judicial procedures have been initiated.
WITHIN THE SCOPE OF COMBATING IRREGULAR MIGRATION; 3,101 irregular migrants were caught and 72 organizers of human trafficking and illegal migrants were detained.
